Rock in Rio celebrates anniversary with emotional moment at Christ the Redeemer
To celebrate this special date, the festival has dressed one of Brazil's greatest symbols with messages that represent its essence and that wish for peace, love, joy, unity and hope.
Rock in Rio 2024 has already started in full swing. On the day of its anniversary, the world's biggest music and entertainment festival surprised locals, residents and tourists with an emblematic moment at the Christ the Redeemer Archdiocesan Shrine. On the night of 11 January, the biggest tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil dressed up as Rock in Rio. Illuminated in blue, white and red, the festival's iconic guitar was projected onto the centre of the Christ the Redeemer monument along with positive messages of peace, love, joy, unity and hope - which reverberate the essence of Rock in Rio - for the year 2024.
In this special year, Rock in Rio will also provide an experience that will remain in the memory of young people from the social institutions supported by the Christ the Redeemer Shrine. Following the motto of dreaming and making it happen, the festival and the Shrine will take 50 young people from these institutions to the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro so that they can experience all the magic of the festival and watch the performances of big names in national and international music.
"This well-deserved honour highlights our city's special vocation for hosting and staging major events, the strategic intelligence that enhances the relationship between culture and economic development and, finally, its creators who, for the last 40 years, have maintained the biggest musical event on the planet with enormous technical and artistic quality," says the rector of the Christ the Redeemer Shrine, Father Omar.
The year 2024 will have a double dose of celebration. In June, we open the doors of Cidade do Rock for the 20th anniversary of Rock in Rio Lisboa, in a new location in Parque Tejo Lisboa. And in September, we'll cross the Atlantic for the 40th anniversary edition of Rock in Rio. These will be days to celebrate the stories we've lived, the music, the love, the unity and the joy.
